Alpine technical director Matt Harman stated during the launch of the A524 that the Anglo-French team took a ‘bold new approach’ in the development of its latest Formula 1 car. This was necessary after Alpine experienced a disappointing 2023 season that saw it lose ground in the constructors’ standings compared to the previous year.

The bold approach for the A524 is illustrated in a major revision of the rear suspension layout, deeper undercuts in the sidepods and a wider, flatter nose compared to the 2023 car. On the rear suspension, the pushrod has been moved forward and now sits completely in front of the upper wishbone.

‘We’ve got a brand-new kinematic on the rear suspension that allows us to take an advantage from the manner in which the car behaves under certain conditions around the track,’ said Harman.

‘We’ve also made sure that we’ve tried to optimise it aerodynamically. We took a little bit of an aerodynamic hit for taking that kinematic, but we believe we will drive through that.’
